pilgrims at the private Shrine of Our Lady Queen of our Hearts

Day Five

Our morning began with Matins and Divine Liturgy in the Eastern Rite, it was very beautiful. We have really enjoyed getting to know this side of the Catholic faith. The monks fed us well for breakfast and then sent us on our way with Father Moses to accompany us for the first 7 miles.

The day was sunny and warm. We stopped at the Shrine of Our Lady Queen of our Hearts, Marianne Ruston met us there to tell us about the history of the Shrine and how it came to be in Steinthal WI. We prayed the Rosary as we went on our way from there.

Stopping for lunch in the town of Keil, we met Ellen and Jeff Grabo; they brought us food and fresh homemade cookies. The afternoon grew hot and a little long as we headed down Snake road toward Elkhart Lake. Just as we began to think we couldn’t take another step, we saw Marti and Tia Mertes greeting us as we approached there house. They welcomed us in and cared for our road weary, sunburned and blistered bodies. We stayed with the Mertes family for the night, they fed and nurtured us well, I think some lifelong friendships were made here. Thanks be to God.

Pray with Mary, Walk with Jesus.
